How to Don a JoViPak® product
Ease of donning varies depending on the patient's age and physical strength as well as it's intended use, i.e. bandage liner, pump appliance liner or as a night-time compression garment. JoViPaks® are designed to follow the contours of the anatomy and when used as a liner for short-stretch bandaging or a pneumatic pump sleeve our standard fit is recommended. For those patients using JoViPaks® as a substitute for compression garments a "snug fit" may be a better choice; however, they will be more difficult to don. Whatever the application, we hope you will find the following suggestions helpful, as ease of donning is essential for patient compliance and longevity of the product.
PLEASE NOTE: Care and content labels are on the OUTSIDE of JoViPaks® and are on the INSIDE of Jovi Jackets.
Donning an Arm
Stand in front of a table (or ideally a kitchen counter so you don't have to bend over) and place the Dycem® on the counter top in front of you. Slide your hand into the JoViPak® as far as possible, then push your hand and the JoViPak® against the Dycem®.
You will notice the Dycem® provides a secure surface, stability and improved grip. You will be able to wiggle your fingers further down into the JoVi® as the Dycem® holds the JoViPak® in place.
If you want the JoViPak® to extend higher up on your arm, just lay your upper arm on the Dycem® and PUSH.
Whenever you need to clean the Dycem®, just wipe it off with a damp cloth.
Donning a Leg
Sit down on a straight back chair and place the Dycem® on the floor in front of you. If it is on carpet, it will work even better.
Slide your foot into the JoViPak® as far as possible, then push your foot firmly against the Dycem®.
You will notice the Dycem® provides a secure surface, stability and improved grip. You will be able to wiggle your toes further down into the JoViPak® as the Dycem® holds the JoViPak® in place.
If you want the JoViPak® to extend higher up on your leg, just place the Dycem® on the edge of the chair cushion.
Sit down, making sure the back of your thigh is contacting the Dycem®.
Now PUSH downward as though you were trying to slide out of the chair.
Whenever you need to clean the Dycem®, just wipe it off with a damp cloth.
You may find it easier to grip the JoViPak® if you use gloves and you turn the JoViPak® back on itself so you have more to hang on to. It's also easier on the fabric.
How to Wash and Dry a JoViPak® Product
We recommend machine washing, as the rinse cycle is beneficial in removing any soap residue and the spin cycle is helpful getting the water out of the foam.
Set your machine on the gentle or knit cycle with warm water (not HOT).
Use any mild detergent, liquid is preferable.
The darker colors will bleed, particularly Black or Royal Blue Cotton/Lycra®, so we suggest you not wash them with light colored clothing.
Air-drying foam-filled JoVi Paks® can take several hours to two days, particularly the Cotton/Lycra® products. Inserting a towel into the arm and leg garments and squeezing helps press out any excess water. Hang it up (use a wire coat hanger to hold it open) and air-dry in a well ventilated area (outdoors is preferable, but not in direct sunlight).
Never use bleach to wash a JoViPak® garment.
Dryer Note: You may choose to put your JoVi liner in your dryer. Our foam is a new generation of Urethane polyols and has much better thermo stability. It is able to withstand temperatures of up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit for purposes of sterilization without degradation of physical properties. However, we still suggest using a low temperature setting on your dryer as a way of extending the life of your JoVi Pak®.
JoVi Jackets
The nylon/spandex JoVi Jacket should be washed separately by hand. Do not use Woolite. The black will bleed for the first few washings. If you put your JoVi Jacket in the dryer, use a low temperature setting and take it out as soon as it is dry. Air-drying is preferable for longevity.
